Whether we realise or not, chewing gum has become a staple in our lives, just like our phones and wallets that are commonly found in our pockets at all times. While its primary purpose is to give us a fresh breath, chewing on gum is also pretty fun – but this is not where the fun ends! Have you ever wondered why most chewing gum is pink? Well, an interesting fun fact about chewing gum is that the inventor was desperately trying to create the perfect bubble gum, and by the time the recipe reached perfection, the only colour he had left to use was pink!

We all grew up being told that if you swallow chewing gum, your intestines will get clogged up and your intestines will get stuck together. Sound familiar? Well in actual fact, this is actually quite rare.

An interesting chewing gum fact is that it can help you concentrate. Studies have shown that when you chew on gum you become more alert, your muscle tension is reduced and you are able to focus better on the activities you are working on.

Chewing gum fun fact no.6:
If you’ve ever been on a plane, you will know how it feels for your ears to pop. But you don’t need to worry anymore! A useful fact is that chewing gum can prevent your ears from popping when you’re changing altitude levels on a plane. This is because you produce more saliva when you chew on gum and swallowing helps balance the pressure in your head. So grab some ChewsyGum before heading abroad!

The only animals that can chew on gum are humans! Interestingly, despite studies suggesting we originate from the monkey family, when monkeys were given chewing gum for the first time, they chewed on it for a few minutes before taking it out and sticking it to their fur.

Another useful fun fact about chewing gum is that you can remove it from your hair using peanut butter. You will have to separate the area from the rest of your hair, cover it in peanut butter and start rubbing it out. This is due to the oil found in peanut butter which helps to separate the gum. There are other ways in which you can remove chewing gum from your hair, but let’s face it, this is the tastiest way to do it.

Do you often get heartburn after eating? The best way to combat this is to chew on some gum! Studies have shown that having a chewing gum after a meal helps with heartburn as it can reduce acid in the esophagus.

The first name for chewing gum was “Blibber-Blubber”. Can you imagine if that stuck? It’s a bit of a mouthful to say the least!
